Montana Preservation Alliance Danvers Touchstone Project Interview with Penny (Miller) Lund by Peggy Barta Interviewer: Barta, Peggy Interviewee: Lund, Penny (Miller) Date: July 6, 2011 Location of Interview: Archive or Library Repository: Lewistown Public Library, Lewistown, MT Description: Penny (Miller) Lund was born November 30, 1946. She did not live in Danvers, MT, a small town outside of Lewistown, MT until she was in high school, but she visited family there all her life. Danvers is a small agricultural community settled largely by Bohemian Catholics and located on the Milwaukee Road. St. Wenceslaus Church, a symbol of the Bohemian religious and cultural heritage, was built in 1916. Much of the town’s social gatherings revolved around the church and the hall located across the road. Mrs. Lund’s recollections include general memories of visits to Danvers as well as stories about special events. Of particular interest is the story of her birth and making sauerkraut and Kool-Aid with her grandparents as well her retelling of her participation in her Aunt Sylvia’s wedding. Mrs. Lund speaks very clearly and I have been able to transcribe most of the interview as is; however, I have occasionally removed unnecessary conjunctions. While her words are clear in the transcript, the text fails to convey the emotion behind them. For a richer understanding of the interview, researchers should consult the audio recordings.
